I Call Shotgun!
Why don’t road trips ever run smoothly from start to finish? If there isn’t car trouble, or a bathroom break, someone is arguing, and if no one is arguing, then it isn’t a road trip!
The memories one can have on a road trip can range from excitement, laughter, heart to heart moments, or irritation.
Road trips remind me of the movie “National Lampoon’s Vacation” with Chevy Chase. The family dynamic was awesome, in my opinion. You had the rebellious teens, the “I love my family” mom, and the adventurous, ‘make it happen’ dad. You put that together and what do you get? A rollercoaster of experiences.
In road trip movies there’s always that one person that doesn’t want to take the long drive, but they end up making the most of their experience, and that’s really what it’s all about- spending time with the ones that you love and those who make you happy.
As of lately my road trips haven’t been as exciting as the “Thelma & Louise” movie or the 2013 not-so-friendly/not-so-much-of-a-family movie entitled “We are the Millers”. However, after reminiscing over my road trip experiences, I can honestly say they’ve been nothing short of interesting! The epiphanies and laughter during the most awkward and tense moments are what makes summer-fun an experience.
Besides the fun and happy times, there are moments that occur on the opposite ends of the spectrum, like the emission of gas. Ya know, nothing says road trip like a good ol’ game of “Who done it?” (said sarcastically!) On the flipside, there is also a more life-threatening game of “OH MY GOD! WAKE UP!!!” It will surely scare everyone into having ‘shock eyes’ for the remainder of the ride.
Road trips are fun and they should be something you share with your favorite bunch. Before this summer is out, do something out of your norm. If you love ice cream, take a trip to your favorite creamery, visit a resort, or even attend a festival. Flying is quick, but the moments you spend in close quarters with your crew are priceless.
