Richard Nares lost his son to cancer in 2000, but he ensures, to this day, that his son’s memory is kept alive and that others in need of transportation to cancer treatments are able to receive it.
When Richard’s son was alive and undergoing treatments, he and his wife had a large, supportive system that allowed them to care for his son to the greatest potential. Along the way, Richard met many families that did not have the same support. Inspired to make their journey a little easier, he started his transportations service, in 2002, called “Riding with Emilio.” Riding with Emilio picks up kids from all over the country that need transportation to their cancer treatments.
Richard’s loss has, in turn, been a gain to many less fortunate families. Through his hard work and dedication his foundation, the Emilio Nares Foundation, has grown tremendously. Today, his transportation program, provides over 2,500 rides a year and services patients in Rady and Orange County Children’s Hospital, as well as, provide support services and assistance to its clientele.
