Edythe is in her majestic one hundreds and wants the world to see just how amazing she is! At the remarkable age of 107, Edythe is Facebook’s oldest registered user. Her tenacity and record breaking achievement has sparked the interests of thousands, leading the public figure to have over 40,000 Facebook likes. On her 95th birthday, Kirchmaier’s children gifted her with a camera, computer, and a printer. She, then, took the gifts and created a whole new world for herself.
Edythe uses her platform to bring attention to things that affect the world, at large. For the past 40 years, Edythe has volunteered at Direct Relief– an organization that sends medical aid around the world. Although her duties include addressing envelops and writing thank you notes, she doesn’t take her position lightly. She proudly uses Facebook to promote the organization’s effort.
Edythe’s willingness to serve others happened long before her 95th birthday. When she was just in the second grade she asked her mother for food out the garden to give to “poor children”. Her mother then responded by saying that the family was just as poor as the ones in need. Ultimately, her mother let her take the food, and ever since she’s been giving back in whatever capacity she could.
“I think if we could just love one another, it would be less pain, less fighting,
more harmony…I think we can win over all of our adversities with love.”
In fact, Kirchmaier went on to work in a welfare office during the Great Depression. It was there where she first met her husband. She was his supervisor. They spent day after day working together consulting- which resulted in them falling in love. They were married for 70 years, before he died at the age of 97.
Kirchmaire also holds the record for being California’s oldest licensed driver as well as being the oldest living former student from the University of Chicago.
