I finally did it! After postponing the Windows 10 upgrade for nearly a year now, I made the decision today that it was time to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.
Following a review of Windows 10 and understanding how it unifies the desktop PC, tablet, smartphone, and game console, I fully see the benefits of this operating system.
The “icing on the cake” is the Cortana voice-responsive assistant. She’s there to help make things easier for you and keep you up to date on the things that matter to you. She listens out for your voice, so you can quickly jump into a search, but by default, it will respond to anyone who shouts out ‘Hey Cortana’. However, you can set it up to only recognize your voice tones by clicking the Cortana box, going to the Settings page and toggling to the “Respond Best to Me” slider. She gives you six phrases to repeat to learn your voice. Cortana’s more than just voice commands. If you sign in with your Microsoft account, you can use Cortana to set reminders, add calendar events, and it can even give you Google Now-style cards with relevant information.
4 Top Features of Windows 10
The Start menu – mixes in a dash of the Metro Start screen’s functionality, sprinkling Live Tiles of Windows 8-style apps next to shortcuts to more traditional PC software.
Virtual desktops/Task View – allows you to go back and forth between either open apps or multiple virtual “desktops” of apps, organized how you like them.
Action Center – provides quick-action buttons for common functions, like activating Bluetooth or connecting to a VPN, as well as an option for shifting the interface to Tablet Mode.
Revamped core apps – are speedy and responsive, and they manage to fit much more info on the screen while still being friendly to mice cursors and fat fingers alike.
Windows 10 is a great start to the next chapter for Microsoft Windows. I can’t wait to learn all about the cool features of Windows 10. I am all in. Upgrade today and tell me how you like those new features.
