‘Living Through the Ages’ is back with an inspiring story of the love between 86-year-old Millie Taylor-Morrison and 85-year-old Harold Morrison. This beautiful, inspiring couple married October 16, 2016 at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Newark, N.J. Their recent union proves the fact that it’s never too late for LOVE!
In 1987, R&B group, “The Whispers”, released the mega hit “Just Gets Better with Time”. The lyrics are:
Just want to tell you how I’m feeling inside,
Like I’ve been walking on cloud number 9.
Your love is rare and like the finest of wine.
It just gets better with time.
Ms. Millie was married to her first husband for 41 years before he died in 1992. She has known Mr. Harold since the 1950s. In fact, he was a guest at her first wedding. They lost touch over the years and later reconnected at New Beginning Faith Fellowship Ministries in Orange, New Jersey. “I used to admire him in church,” she told People magazine. “He dressed impeccably, and I admire that in a man.” When Mr. Harold got sick, Ms. Millie picked him up and took him to church every Sunday.
When his health declined further and he could no longer live alone, they moved in together so she could take care of him. However, Ms. Millie wanted to do things right, especially for her grandchildren, she says. “I’m a Christian woman, and I want to live a Christian life,” she told People magazine.” “We decided that even though we were in our twilight years, we wanted to be pleasing in God’s eyes.” So according to her granddaughter, Khadija “after a year of him getting better, they wanted to be married.”
Fast forward to the wedding day…the doors opened and standing there was Ms. Millie, the pure definition of elegance, beauty and refined grace holding a glorious bouquet and wearing a purple off-the-shoulder custom-made gown (Designed by Ms. Millie, herself), embroidered floor-length jacket and a lilac cage veil to match. (The gown has been liked and loved more than 20,000 times through social media.) Mr. Harold teared up when he saw this vision of loveliness. She looked like an angel! Mr. Harold looked equally as debonair in his tuxedo!
While this story was originally about Ms. Millie’s beautiful wedding dress, to me the greater story here is about their AMAZING love story. This couple personifies that love has no age limit, no expiration date, it gives life meaning and makes it worth living. Thank you Mr. Harold & Ms. Millie for setting this standard!
